If you are going to workout you may as well get the most from your efforts.
Though most people have heard of Pilates, they are not quite sure what to expect from a Pilates workout. Is it aerobic? Is it like Yoga? Will I sweat? Well, here’s the scoop on what you can expect.
In a Beginning Pilates class you learn the fundamental movement skills needed to perform Pilates exercises correctly and safely. Once these fundamentals are covered you will be led through a Basic Pilates routine where you can practice these skills and take the time to discover where you may need additional strength or more stretch. Our bodies are smart and will always move from where we are strong and flexible first. The goal is to learn where those places are and then focus on what needs strength and flexibility instead. That is how we create balance.
As you progress through the levels of Pilates you add more exercises, learn transitions and refine movement skills. This progression increases the flow of movement and endurance required to perform a full series of Pilates exercises all while employing the fundamental skills learned in the beginning.
Pilates is about movement. Using the mind to control the body, always challenging your body to find new movement skills, building strength and flexibility where it is not easily accessed and yes getting a workout. Pilates teaches through movement, how to move into better health.
